About Childhood Matters

Childhood Matters is a specialist multi-disciplinary child and family organisation providing therapeutic, educational and community services that help children, young people and families overcome challenges and build brighter futures.

Healing Through Connection

Many of the children, young people, and families we work with have experienced developmental trauma. We believe that meaningful, trusting relationships are central to recovery, and we work collaboratively to help them understand and make sense of their life experiences.

By doing so, we aim to support healing, strengthen resilience, and rebuild trust in themselves, in services, and in the wider community.

We work alongside children, families, and their networks, continually evolving our services in response to changing needs while staying committed to one clear purpose:

Helping children achieve the best possible outcomes.

Our Values

Our values shape every interaction, every decision and every service.

Integrity

We act with honesty, openness and accountability in everything we do.

Respect

We treat every child, family, colleague and partner with dignity, compassion and respect.

Fairness

We are committed to providing equitable, inclusive and consistent support for everyone we work alongside.

Development

We believe everyone has the capacity to grow and we are committed to supporting positive development in children, families, our people and our organisation.

Our Principles

Many of the children and families we support have lived through adversity. Our services are built on trauma-informed principles that recognise the impact of those experiences and create the conditions for healing and recovery.

Safety

Creating environments and relationships where children and families feel physically and emotionally safe.

Trust and Transparency

Being open, honest and consistent, so children and families always know what to expect from us.

Voice and Choice

Ensuring children and families are heard, informed and involved in decisions about their own support.

Collaboration

Working alongside children, families, carers and professionals as partners, recognising the strengths each brings.

Empowerment

Building on strengths, developing skills and supporting children and families to believe in their own capacity for change.

Compassion and Understanding

Responding to behaviour and distress with curiosity and care, asking what has happened to a child rather than what is wrong with them. Our approach is informed by internationally recognised trauma-informed care frameworks and embedded through our clinical governance, training and supervision.

Childhood Matters at a glance

While our organisation has grown, our purpose has remained constant:
To stand alongside children and families with compassion, expertise and hope.
