Grasshopper Room Ages 3 – 4.5 yrs
Children at this stage are eager to learn, investigate and understand how things work. The Grasshopper Room encourages children to think independently, explore their interests and develop confidence through child-led learning and meaningful play experiences.
What to Expect:
Child Led, Everyday
Our emergent curriculum follows what children are actually interested in.
A recognised curriculum
We implement a play-based learning curriculum that follows Aistear, the Early Childhood Curriculum Framework, and Síolta, the National Quality Framework for Early Years Educators.
A record of their journey
An individual Aistear diary captures your child’s progress, observations, photos and reflections – shared with you through the Child Path App.
The park is part of the classroom
Daily Outdoor time in the sandpit, parklands and gardens. The natural world isn’t just a backdrop, it’s where some of the best learning happens.
Room to roam. Space to discover.
We are very fortunate that our creche is set in three acres of parkland, with trees, gardens and plenty of space to explore.
Children can get busy in the mud kitchen, play on the grass or create a den beneath the willow archway.
Daily outdoor play gives them time to follow their curiosity and make choices of their own.
They can try new things and test their skills, with our team nearby to guide and support them.
Along the way, they build confidence and learn to care for the natural world around them.

“When children are encouraged to follow their curiosity, learning becomes an adventure rather than a lesson.”
Hi, I am Kate Lane, the Team Leader in the Grasshopper Room at Childhood Matters Crèche. I have been a part of Childhood Matters team since 2005, bringing with me over 14 years of experience in a Team Leader role. I hold a QQI Level 6 qualification in Supervisory Management as well as a BA (Hons) in Early Years Education.
Over the years, I’ve had the wonderful opportunity to work in various rooms, which has given me valuable insights into each phase of a child’s early development.
In the Grasshopper Room, our focus is on sparking curiosity, encouraging independence, and turning everyday moments into exciting learning adventures. This is a place where your child won’t just “learn to learn” — they’ll grow in confidence, discover new ideas, and explore the world in their own unique way.
We’re thrilled to be part of your child’s learning journey and can’t wait to see where their imagination leads them!
