Childhood Matters Early Years Crèche is an award-winning crèche located in the heart of Blackrock, Cork City.

Dedicated to providing high-quality childcare, interactive learning, and memorable experiences for children 4 months to 9 years old. We are happy to offer care 51 weeks of the year, in a homely and warm environment.

We strive to provide an indoor environment in each room that meets the needs of the children and adults in the setting. The building is an organised purpose-built space that offers a retreat for all that work and play here. Childhood Matters Early Years is blessed to be located in a green belt surrounded by beautiful woodlands and gardens. We wish to honour our location and create a balance between indoors and outdoors in all that we do. Children learn to appreciate the environment through their daily interaction in it and we feel this adds to the enjoyable experiences that our service has to offer.

Outdoor play is an integral part of the curriculum and it enhances the child's learning.

Our Outdoor Education Environment is where we feel the true treasure lies! Children have daily access, through free flow play, to an amazing array of different environments. In the Outdoor Education Environment, the children get to test their skills and experience life in the wilderness, something which is not always possible in a city crèche.

Our Outdoor Education Initiative involves using the outdoors to promote health and wellbeing, as well as to challenge the children’s mind set and ability by presenting play that has an educated element of risk, it provides the perfect setting to allow children to build a positive mind set while also learning to respect the natural environment. As facilitators, we demonstrate, scaffold and help the children to safely use equipment from the surrounding environment. Through this outdoor space, children are given a sense of responsibility and are allowed the space and time to make their own choices in their environment. The Outdoor Education Environment includes a mud kitchen, a large grass area, and a willow archway where the children can create a den and three acres of parkland with trees.

Our Outdoor Environment provides a variety of opportunities to discover and explore different herbs, flowers, trees, and leaves.

We endeavor to create an atmosphere where children can learn to take risks in a controlled environment. The children have access to manufactured equipment alongside open-ended resources in order to develop their imagination, solve problems and learn about the world around them.

Except Public Holidays, Bank Holidays, Good Friday and Christmas break.

After school

After School provides a balanced programme of communication, problem-solving, and teamwork skills, relaxation, play nutrition and supervised homework.

Age: 4 years – 9 years.

Ratio: 1:12

Times: Juniors/ Seniors: 1pm-6pm
1st class up: 2pm-6pm

Fees applied during term time only based on Childhood Matters term calendar.

Schemes offered: NCS (National Childcare scheme)

  • We will supervise all written homework, and reading to be carried out at home as it is an important part of parent participation. Staff will not sign the children’s homework journal this is to be checked by the child’s parent/guardian.
  • Playtime and having a good time with friends come first after finishing up any homework.  Our afterschool is set up so that the children feel secure and at ease, while they are in our care. They have the chance to express their ideas and thoughts on what they are doing and what is important to them. We work with the child to develop the weekly activities they want to perform. Among these include baking, board games, arts & crafts, pretend play, invention, dancing, music, and creative play.
  • The after-school children have a dedicated outdoor play area that is suitable for use in all weather. Outdoor play is strongly encouraged for children in the after-school room after their day in school.
  • The program offers a planned assortment of secure, imaginative, and constructive possibilities that help children and young people take control of many program elements.
  • Each child in the group develops a strong bond with the after-school team.
  • Each child is encouraged to articulate their own needs, make decisions, and accept accountability for their own actions.
  • Pick-up from Local Schools is available in our own company vehicles and driven by our own team.
  • Childhood Matters Early Years can only facilitate school collections at the following times: 1:30 pm and 2:30 pm. Please note: the list of schools that we offer collections from is revised on a yearly basis.

CAMP

Provided during mid-terms and school summer holiday

Age: 4 years – 9 years.

Full day care: 8.00am-6.00pm

Part time: 9am – 1pm or 2pm-6pm

Optional: Breakfast hour 8am-9am (additional charge applies)

  • We offer fun-filled camp to children aged 4-9.  Our camps usually run during mid-term breaks and summer school holidays. We offer full day camp option and part time camp options for children to attend.
  • The longest running camp is the summer camp that usually runs from July to August when children are all finished up with school.
  • We provide fun, exciting and engaging activities that allow children to learn valuable life skills like team work and leadership, creativity and most importantly making new friends.
  • The outdoor environment is very much part of the children’s daily routine that allows children to connect with nature and to stay active.
