The service is currently Tusla registered to provide sessional care for children aged 2.8 -6 years. Childhood Matters Pre-school is situated in Farranree just 10 minutes’ drive from Cork City Centre.
We are delighted to say in August 2022 Childhood Matters was successful in the tender process and that ex-Stepping Stones Pre-school is now Childhood Matters Early Years Pre-school that forms part of our service currently provides sessional care for 22 children.
Childhood Matters Pre-school Farranree is a two-story purpose-built childcare facility with the primary objective to provide an enriching space for children to enjoy.
The downstairs childcare room has direct access to the courtyard and is protected from the main street by the entrance hall.
Childhood Matters Early years Farranree has a committed staff that has the same objective to provide all children with the best opportunities for learning and development.
The setting is a stimulating environment, with a child-led curriculum with the continuous support and guidance of the adult.
The children’s individual needs are always a priority and aim to be met every day.
Policies and procedures are supported and implemented daily.
The Curriculum and daily routine are focused on the Aistear Learning Curriculum and Siolta National Standards.
Staff have professional relationships with both management and staff of the setting, and have an excellent chain of communication with parents/guardians connected to the setting.
Staff work well as a team and set objectives and aim to achieve them which shows dedication, and commitment and if something is not achieved they will aim to succeed again.

- Childhood Matters Early Years Farranree is a wonderful early years environment where each child is nurtured as an individual and provided with endless opportunities for learning and development through play.
- We implement a play-based learning curriculum that follows Aistear The Early Childhood Curriculum Framework and Siolta The National Quality Framework for Early Years Educators.
- Childhood Matters Early Years Farranree offer The Early Childhood Care & Education Scheme (ECCE) for children of pre-school age. There will be only one entry point to the ECCE scheme – in September. All children are entitled to 2 full academic years.
- Our room/s run from 9:00am – 12:00pm. Our daily routine consists of Morning Greeting, Planning, Free-play, Small Group Time, Large Group Time. Snack Time and Outdoor Time.
- Our school environment is a spacious, naturally bright, well-ventilated setting made up of different play areas. Our environment is surrounded by highly qualified and dedicated childcare educators that are naturally warm and respectful to children’s individual needs.
- Children have daily access to the outdoor environment where they get to explore the natural environment.
- Our goal is to assist each child to develop in a holistic way and to become capable and confident learners.
- Each child has his/her own key worker who assesses the child’s learning, work, and growth.
- An individual Aistear diary, observations, pictures, gems are done on an ongoing basis.
- We encourage parents to review all the information uploaded on the Childpath app as they provide depth reflections on the learning and work of the children in the Pre-school room.

Emma Cotter
My name is Emma Cotter and I have been working in Early childhood Education for over 16 years. I began my experience as a childcare assistant working alongside teachers and assisting them in the setting.
I love the classroom environment and went on to complete my QQI level 6 and progressed to room leader in an ECCE setting. Providing and maintaining a safe, secure and stimulating environment opens endless opportunities for learning to take place through play-based experiences on a daily basis.
After 5 years of acting as room leader, I progressed to become a school supervisor. I have been in this role since 2021. Working in partnership with parents, children, and staff to ensure and maintain the highest standards in our Early years setting. Offering endless opportunities to each child that attends our setting by having a positive approach to the individual needs and development of a child.
Since early childhood, I have been involved in dance and drama which is a huge love of mine and I love to share my experience with the children and incorporate into our curriculum plans.
Working in childcare is a passion of mine and very rewarding.
