In the Bumblebee Room, the children in our care are always our primary concern.

We provide positive and meaningful experiences giving the children the opportunity to progress in all areas
This is a time when children begin participating in activities for longer periods of time. A big part of our programme will focus on mini me yoga, music, arts and crafts, colours, listening to stories, and fun messy play where we encourage children to express their personalities through creative and imaginative play whilst promoting their self-esteem and concentration.

It is an important time for each child to learn about sharing and getting along with other children. This age group is very sensitive to language and you will be fascinated by the songs, rhymes, and stories they learn.

Through stories, children learn to appreciate language, gain new vocabulary, and learn to use new words and concepts. Simple songs and games are an important introduction to speech patterns, sensory motor skills, development, and movement skills.

Our weekly planners are child-led and we value the children’s interests. Parental involvement is of utmost importance to us. We ask parents to send in family photos for our family wall and to let us know if anything exciting is happening with their child. We work closely with parents to help with toilet training and follow the routine that is developed at home.

The room is attached to an enclosed garden with surrounding gardens. A favourite place for toddlers is the enclosed mud kitchen.
Each child has his/her own key worker who assesses the child’s learning, work, and growth.
An individual Aistear diary, observations, pictures, gems are done on an ongoing basis.
We encourage parents to review all the information uploaded on the Childpath app as they provide depth reflections on the learning and work of the children in the Bumblebee room.

Bumblebee Room Team Leader

My name is Karen O’ Brien. I joined the team at Childhood Matters in September 2008. I have completed Fetac level 6 in Childcare and Education and I also have completed the module in Special needs level 6. I started off as an early year’s educator and then worked my way up to Team Leader. I worked with various age groups from babies to preschool children.
I love the outdoors and we take the children on walks to explore our beautiful grounds. I feel it is so important to always get down to the children’s level when speaking to them. I feel it is very important for children to receive positive learning experiences while in my care.
